Welcome to Dymphna’s Children.
This blog is for anyone seeking information, inspiration, or guidance in the overwhelming world of Autism. I am not a doctor, just a parent of a 19 year old beautiful son, living with Autism. During my 12 years in the world of Autism, I have learned a lot through our experiences and would like to share it with others. As life progresses I am still learning everyday, how to tackle challenging behaviors, administrative obstacles, and how to love on a deeper level required when parenting a child living with Autism. I don’t assume to be the leading expert on the subject of Autism, but I am an expert on how Autism has affected My life. I will post stories that I hope, encourage, inspire, and inform. I also hope to create a forum for those dealing with similar challenges where ideas and encouragement maybe exchanged. Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog, I hope it gives you clarity and comforts you, in a time that maybe clouded with fear and doubt.
Why Dymphna?
In Catholicism we have a saint for almost everything you could ever want to pray for. When Autism gets the best of me and I just feel lost, hopeless and like I have no control over the situation, I turn to prayer. I pray for guidance and understanding, I pray for creativity and ingenuity, I pray for determination, kindness and strength. When things were really going bad like potty training, or behaviors I couldn’t get under control especially around the time when I was home schooling J, I turned to St. Dymphna. I find myself praying to Saint Dymphna often. She is the patron saint of the mentally and emotionally ill.
A PRAYER TO ST. DYMPHNA
Good Saint Dymphna, great wonder-worker in every affliction of mind and body, I humbly implore your powerful intercession with Jesus through Mary, the Health of the Sick, in my present need. (Mention it.) Saint Dymphna, martyr of purity, patroness of those who suffer with nervous and mental afflictions, beloved child of Jesus and Mary, pray to Them for me and obtain my request.
